On January 7, 2025, the Eaton Fire started in the San Gabriel Mountains and moved quickly into the City of Altadena, killing 19 people and destroying 9000 building. The Eaton fire became known as the fifth deadliest fire and the second most destructive wildfire in California History. Habitat for Humanity is helping families to rebuild their homes and more importantly their lives after such a devastating and unexpected catastrophic event threatens to destroy the hope of those who have been affected.
“There is a story behind every home that was destroyed. Those families need love and our prayers as they rebuild their lives. My sister and I are here to do whatever we can to help this family to get back to into their homes to have some normalcy restored to their lives” says Arnold Ng and his sister Bernice who took a day to participate in a build site in Altadena, Ca.
“We worked on installing some siding, calking some holes and learned a lot about construction while we were there. We met some amazing volunteers, a young mother of three, a retired business owner in his 80’s, two students who are preparing to become electricians, they were all great people and we were led by three great supervisors who were kind and gracious to us as we tried our best to do good work. We had a great day and hopefully we were able to make a difference to the family who is planning to move into their newly rebuilt home sometime in March. I have seen firsthand the impact Habitat for Humanity has had on the lives of families, especially the young people who are working hard to learn and prepare for college. It has been a profoundly rich experience to be a part of Habitat’s work in this community.”
